Oil leak 5.9 cummins rear main seal11/9/2023 ![]() Typically the rocker covers have a vent system, or a valve and hose from the valley pan, between the heads. Most diesel engines have vents that connect to the air cleaner altho some engines have seperate vents. I do not know the location of your engine. Other kinds of fluids means more study and lots of work. Sometimes the cause is a bad engine vent and the engine becomes pressured. The most common failure is a bad rear main seal. A leak coming from a bell housing can mean several possible failures. Use a paper towel to determine type of oil. It is very important to discover what type of oil is leaking. Has anyone ever seen anything like that before? ![]() Does this mean I have a leaky seal? I am 100% sure this is motor oil and not transmission fluid. At the bottom of the bell housing, there is a big hole with threads in it, that looks like a plug should go there. ![]() I took one of our 1989 Bluebird TC200's up to the the station to get fuel and while fueling I say a pretty massive puddle of oil forming underneath.Īnyhow, I took it back to the shop expecting to see a oilpan gasket failure, but the oil was leaking out of the bell housing. I encountered the weirdest oil leak this morning. ![]()
